I like Scrabble, too. I also like Pente, backgammon, cribbage, Yahtzee.

My absolute favorite - but not really fun with only 2 people - is Risk. I hardly get to play it anymore though - everyone tells me it takes too long and that I'm too cut throat when I play it. But I thought that was the point.

Have you ever tried any German board games? They are much different than "American" games.

Hit up http://www.boardgamegeek.com and look for the 2-player GeekLists (or send me a PM if you need some direct links). ALthough these are foreign games, manyh of them come in English editions and be ordered domestically.

Some of the games my SO and I play that work very well with 2 players are Alhambra, Caracassonne: The Castle, Kahuna, Samurai, Attika, Torres, Battleline, and Tigris and Euphrates. I'm guessing you've probably never heard of these but they're all great fun (descriptions at above links).

Am I the only immature person to visit this thread? Everytime I see this thread I can only think of one thing. :)

Just keep it to yourself and no-one gets their post deleted. There seem to be other boardgame freaks out there like myself, let us have some fun rather than running the thread into the gutter if thats ok? We all know the game(s) you are thinking of.

I recently tried to buy a board game for a couple I know, and was surprised at how many of the newer games really don't work with two people.

Besides the classics (checkers to Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit), does anyone know of newer games that work well with two people? Cranium etc really require teams.

LOL, I get the same slack from my girlfriend when I run her blockade and do a full on assault on her continents. :) I love risk too.

Matt
