Does anyone know of any decent places to shore dive in and around Galveston?

Surely something somewhat decent exists that doesn't cost hundreds of dollars. I read something about st joes beach?

Did you want to see anything while you dive? Sometimes in late summer vis will open up to 10 ft but not every year, when it does the best dive is the jetties.

I'll be there tomorrow through Wed. How do I dive the jettis?

I used to do all day rig diving trips off a private boat for $40 but that was 8 years ago.

Sorry, Houston is rough.

Be thankful you have water. And seafood! I can drive 2 1/2 hours for a really crappy lake or 6 hours to CA and then you get whatever you get in S.CA, which is actually pretty good but still 6 hours each way, plus boat or Catalina express.

Have you ever been to Galveston? Fine place to vacation, lots of surviving historical sites and much more, but not a dive destination. I wouldn't want to get my gear that dirty for nothing, it'd be a long drive for tanks, and who is going to buddy with you? Play in the water if you know how to escape rip currents, but diving is not available.
