I have a new Icon HD and have only been on a few dives with it. I have not had any trouble with reading it at angles. I am used to using a D9 which was getting hard for my old eyes to read.

The icon is rechargeable. I swam one day nearly 6 hours doing search patterns for my rescue class and the battery life dropped to 89%. The icon does not have air integration yet and that will cost another $450 or so when it comes out.

wow that much for an upgrade thats nuts...

I don't know much about the Icon (in the water wise). But the Galileo gives you Remaining Bottom Time rather then Air time....the difference is the RBT takes into account EVERYTHING that's going on. Remaining Air, Depth, NDL, Breathing Rate, Temp, Safety Stops, Everything, and that translates into an accurate Time frame for how long you can be at that depth. As oppose to Air Time, which is just Tank Pressure and NDL's. Among other things, UWATEC has been doing this for almost 50 years. I don't really know what Mares experience is (or who's building it for them).
Also there are a few minor differences between the Sol and Luna. Sol has the Heart Rate Monitor, can switch between 3 gases, and/or can give you readings of 2 other tank sensors (like you wife and kids). While the Luna, 1 gas, 1 sensor and no Heart Rate. Personally I prefer the Luna, it's just me, I'm just doing easy non tec dives, and I like the Black face too.

Hope this helped.

ok now im figuring out should i get the SOL or LUNA

now you say i have to PAY for luna
but sol is free updates correct?

Correct. If you want to get the Trimix upgrade for the Luna (if and when it comes out) You're going to have to pay for it. And, for that matter, any other upgrade in the future. With the Sol, all upgrades are free. From now till kingdom come.

The price for the Trimix upgrade is rumored to be around $200-$250. Don't quote me on that, though. That's just what I've heard. I do work at a dive shop that sells Scubapro stuff, though.

If you're gonna upgrade the Luna for Trimix......might as well get the Sol lol
That's why I'm going Luna. It has what need.
My shop is a big Scubapro shop and Aqualung. I dive the Cobra now, but I'm going Luna. Wanna try and do this so I can keep my Cobra too lol.

I own the Mares Icon HD.. I love it. I have 8 dives on so far. Easy to read underwater. Color Screen with no need for back lighting. Excellent features (compass, real time dive chart, multiple views, etc) and good battery life plus it is rechargeable with USB connection. Is it better than a Galileo? Not necessarily. One of my best friends has the Galileo and we have swapped for a few dives. It is a good computer, no doubt. It is hard to read at some angles. It is air integrated and the Icon HD is not at this point. When air integration is available in the spring, price wise it will be at the same or lesser price point than the Galileo. Mares will give you a brand new Icon HD when you trade it in for the price of the transmitter if you buy it now.

Check out Mares Website or youtube for functions and features. Also. check out Leisure Pro. Call them. They will sell it for much less than the advertised price.

my vote is for the sol. air integrated out of the box, unlike the icon, and don't have to pay for updates. unless, perhaps, you don't foresee yourself requiring any updates.

once the icon comes out with air integration (which they've claimed for a while already...) then we'll talk. that screen must be pretty nice. but it's super expensive. meh.

Did you consider the UEMIS Zurich SDA? If not, check it out. You may like what you see.

I am an iphone guy, so that's why the icon attracted me....and the fact that I can see the screen. Very very intuitive. Bright screen. Great battery time. Cost will end up being along the same as my D9.

When the transmitter comes out, I will swap this computer for a new one, so basically I am testing this one out.

Problem with dive computers is that everyone has their own tastes and styles. Even after comparing them, some people prefer "iphone" and some prefer "blackberry"....

The trick is getting to know whichever computer you decide to buy.
