I recently purchased a canon G9, and I have been having some trouble importing my RAW photos onto my mac. For the life of me I cannot figure out how to use the canon supplied software or iPhoto to do this - even though iPhoto does say it supports RAW on the canon G9.

Also - I know I should be using photoshop, I'll get that eventually, I just got this camera and I am shooting in programmable mode with "RAW + L" enabled.

I became a MAC user in early 2007 after 20 years with PCs. I shoot a lot with my Canon 5D and almost always in RAW format. With all the pics I found Aperture (Apple Product) to be an incredibly useful application to import just about any type of image. It also is a tremendous help in organizing those 5K plus images. You should not require any of the software from Canon to import the G9 images and they can then easily be exported from Aperture in any format required, while still keeping that valuable RAW image. Of recent, Aperture is also starting to compete with Adobe CS3, but it's not quite there in the power of CS3.

Thanks for the reply! I think I figured out how to make my G9 take RAW photos. Apparently I have to set the function to RAW instead of L. "L+RAW" menu option only takes "L" photos, and "RAW+L" option actually takes both - kind of odd.

I'm a Canon G9 and apple user for quite a while. Here's the thing with the software from apple.
Aperture v1.0 and 1.5 does not support the Raw images of the G9 eventhough it does for other pro models from Canon. This was fixed with the new Aperture v.2.0 which includes support for G9's RAW among others. Haven't have a problem ever since

Cheers

You can use the program "camera window" from the canon program to download from the G9 and "zoom browser" to view.

Not sure if Mac has a raw converter / I know Windows XP did not.

Hope this helps, Mike
