I've seen a lot of info on the strobe settings for the G10. Any advise as to the menu settings on auto focus, af, af-point zoom, safety MF, IS Mode and all the other settings.
I'm having a series of problems getting consistently good focus on the small stuff. I've seen the advise on the digital zoom and it helped. Any info would be appreciated.

Whats your problem with focus?

I tend to notice that my G10 is a bit slow and uncertain on focus in mediokre light, but thats because Im used to DSLRs and spoiled.

I would generally advice the following for any given situation shooting with strobe; set the strobe to a given power, then adjust only aperture and sometime shutter to get correct exposure. Imo you should never have to change the power of the flash really much.

Aperture on the small sensor of the G10 does pretty much nothing in terms om DOF.

Best cure for focus problems is to add a focus light. I purchased a Big Blue focus light about three months after getting my G10 setup, and all my focusing problems went away ...

These subjects are all less than an inch in size ...

Not to hijack the thread to much here but NWGratefulDiver, did you sort out the trouble with S&S YS110 ? And what does your current setup look like?

Oh yes ... long ago. It wasn't the strobe at all, but rather the way the FIX folks had set up the mount for the optical cables. The cable that plugged into the outer hole was too far from the camera's flash, and sometimes didn't get enough signal to fire. I ended up making my own mount ... one that put both cables directly over the camera's internal flash. Fisheye has subsequently modified their design to eliminate the problem.

My current setup is the G10 with FIX housing, dual YS-110a strobes, and the Big Blue focus light I linked to above. I almost always dive with the flat port, and the flip-up macro lens attachment. On rare days, I'll switch to the wide-angle lens port ... I have the older, 15 mm port.

I agree with NWGratefulDiver that using a focus light helps a lot in focusing.

For myself, I'll use a fixed aperture of f8, and vary the strobe power accordingly. The dial on the FIX G10 housing is a little too small to adjust for my fingers. So I'd rather adjust the strobe power on my YS110a.

NWGratefulDiver, thanks a bunch for the info. If you got the time feel free to look over my questions in the "Strobes & lighting" section. Got a thread "Buying used strobe..." there with some questions regarding mounting and such.

Yes, those tiny little buttons are my one complaint about the FIX housing ... they're difficult to manipulate, especially while wearing drygloves ... takes a bit of getting used to ...

Exactly that is the reason that i bought the G11 and the Patima housing and not the S90 with the FIX housing.
The S90/Fix combination is really sweet, but i like to have it a bit "beefier"...

Is there a way to use the TTL feature with dual YS110 strobes and the G10? I liked the feature when I had one strobe, but with two, everything is overexposed. I had to switch to manual strobe adjustments.
