In addition to the extra failure mode as you experienced. this French test also highlights that there is quite some impedance in Work of Breathing performance as well through having the extra swivel/adapter added Facebook

Even if you don't know the OC WOB of that particular BOV in the first place; deliberately making it worse as a system choice, may not suit optimal performance in emergency...

Thanks for the info.
Yeah, the swivel is in the trash/spare parts bin already. I am directly connecting the hose to the BOV and I will not dissassemble it when washing/storing in the future.

I never fitted that to mine, just seemed a superfluous piece of crap and the hose length was ok without.

I always have a necklaced BO if overhead too.

Only had to bailout to the necklace once, and that was to sort a small freeflow, but I’ve since added a flow stop to the BOV.

How long ago was that o-ring replaced?
That looks like an original FKM brown o-ring that comes with the Omni-Swivel.
In my experience, the stock orings that come with hoses/ fittings are uniformly imports of questionable quality. I have had that exact failure multiple times on hose connections over the years.
Since your problem was not a swivel problem, but a fatigue issue related to repeatedly disconnecting the fitting, I would suggest you change the orings every year, and use trusted components direct from oring manufacturers, rather than third parties. That's what I do now.

All swivels eventually become a problem. I’d say get rid of it if you’re doing serious dives

Might be time for a QD there, that o-ring in particular is susceptible of getting nicked pretty easily when inserting, I've sheared off a few on connection.
Agreed. I have a qd that’s hasn’t failed me in 7 years with basically zero maintenance

Temping Murphy aren't you?

I've had a QD fail closed before. Had to skip a dive after I got all suited up and my offboard would not flow gas. I've also had them start bubbling. And had the chrome on the connecting male part get so eroded that it didn't seal well. I take apart and clean the QD every year now and always have a couple of spares in my kit.

I've cleaned it a couple times, but honestly imo sometimes its just like a reg. If it works it works, then you send it in for service and suddenly it freeflows. So yes, I'm taking my chances and I'm good with it
Worst case I bail out to my bailout reg. No different than someone diving a dsv with no bov

My qd is for off board dil, so a bit more mission critical.
