What is the face plate made of? I would be concerned about the glass breaking if there is a pressure pressure differental. I also would be concern if it was not safety glass. Since this is surplus for who knows when it may have not been a concern to the manufacturer.
I look forward to hearing about your progress. Good luck

I am having a little trouble picturing the entire set up so this idea might be all wet. How about modifying the path of the air flow so that only MOST of the air follows the circuit inside the mask. If there is a one way valve that lets the air go over the lens, put a small hole in it to allow the pressure to re-equalize quicker. Just a thought.

question............. is your second stage adjustable?

I think that if it is and you tuned it down, it seems like it would compensate for the reg free flowing at the end of your inhalation.

If you dont have an adjustable second, then I would try to borrow one and try it out.

JMHT (just my humble theory)

The adjustable second stage seems like the best chance.... the project is currently on hold because the dive opportunities have gotten REAL rare this time of year in NY, and when I can get out, the waters aren't exactly condusive to this type of experiment... it could kill me!
Thanks to the contributers to this thread. When there's an update (when then water 's easier or I get some pool time), I'll post it here.

Definitly keep us posted with up dates - You might of motivated me enough now to try it my self down here in the warm(er) Florida waters

Glass or plastic won’t be a concern. A lot of masks on the market are glass and they were all glass prior to the plastics becoming popular.

Glass isn’t going to break with a pressure differential that small. If you had a differential big enough to break it you have some other major problems to deal with. You will generate much more pressure on glass just by slamming an exterior door on a tightly sealed house.

We had this style mask for a while and they had plastic lenses. Even if they were glass it would be tempered glass. I for one do not want safety glass in a lens application.

He’s got a good project going and it will be a successful one.

Masks are made of safety glass.
Tempered Glass to be more specific. I was refering to safety glass as the laminated type. Not good for diving.

ok i read most of the post but not all heres some things i know about gas mask from the military we had to rebuild our own you have a one way valve in the mouth and nose area. if you take out that flap valve you will allow pressusre to go back to the filter hole its there so you dont exhale back through the filter so if you didnt find thing already just my 2 cents also as for equ.. you should be able to do that as you exhale each time you do this you area adding air to the mask
