I'll second South Florida Diving Headquarters in Pompano. I did 4, 2 tank dives with them earlier this year.

Hope to be there Saturday afternoon. I think I'm going to dive with Scubatyme. Does anyone know if any shops rent tanks with DIN valves? I'm bringing an HP120 along, so if I need to get a second tank, I don't want to mess with switching regs and stuff...

Also, any suggestions on a night dive? It'll be my first one, so it doesn't need to be on the wild side. Also, there is not going to be any moon at all.

Fill Express is the fill station of choice for most of us locals who dive nitrox and want top quality gas and gear. They also deal with steel tanks and Din valves. Check them out at www.fillexpress.com. They're in Pompano Beach; a little bit of a drive north from your hotel, but well worth the trip, and close to So. Fla. Diving Hq.

BTW, if you're interested in a nice shore dive site, with a very short surface swim, my spot of choice is 12th st. in pompano. only about a 75 ft surface swim to the buoy and REMARKABLE reef. Easy for snorkeling, diving, and excellent for night diving. Parking is usually cheap, or free, if you don't mind a little walk, and the beach is never crowded. Send me a pm if you want more info.

I just did a shore dive at Lauderdale by the Sea, Hibicus St. It's about 4 1/2 mi north of your hotel. Max depth at high tide was 17 ft. Nice reef though, see trip report here http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=141476 I've been told it can be a good snorkel reef at low tide.

Regarding the parking, I've had some luck at Marriott's by asking if they will waive the fee, can't hurt to ask.

Good luck, have fun and dive safe,

Thanks for the link to fillexpress! That will do very nicely.

ciret,

I'll ask them when I get there. Apparently, the only free parking is for the owners. Anyone trading off, isn't afford the same right. Sounds stupid to me, since they get owners rights at my places.

Thanks for the tip about Hibicus St. I'll have a look. Sounds like it would be a nice Sunday dive. Something to get wet in....

Late to the party but if you do want to dive Hibiscus on Sunday start a thread in our trips forum! We Conchs are always up for a dive there & it just happens to be EXTREMELY easy for me to get there....

Hope you make it down in time to hang with us on Saturday!!

Don't know that I will, but it would be cool meeting everyone down there. If you ever want to come up to PA and freeze your butt off, give me a buzz! :D

Oh yeah...one other thing. I'm planning on diving in a t-shirt and swimming suit. I guess I find out if that's sufficient after the first time in the water....but heck...the water is still in the middle 40's up here.
