I certified through rescue with PADI, then took Advanced EANX and Deco through TDI. My main reason for this was that I liked and trusted the TDI instructor. I have since met a Tec- Rec (PADI) instructor that I would consider taking training from, but for me, it's all about who's teaching the class, not the certifying agency.

Open to Master Diver with Padi, Deco and Adv. Nitrox with TDI.

Just looking at agencies and ruling out the instructor in the equation (apples to apples comparison), I'd go with PADI DSAT courses vs TDI courses. better materials, better course structure. my opinion.

FWIW, I would stick with PADI for your Rescue course, simply for sheer international name recognition. Move to TDI for Nitrox, and any further tech training.

* Note: PADI's nitrox course is just fine, as well, and you can actually get a two-in-one Rescue/Nitrox card from PADI and reduce the number of cards you have to carry in your wallet. By no means critical, but kinda handy.

But past Nitrox, TDI over PADI.

Being a NAUI instructor, I have the latitude in training to use any materials that I see fit to teach a perticular class, skill, or specialty.

That being said, I use the PADI NITROX materials in my NITROX course. The information is well laid out, and easy to follow. I also use the NOAA diving manual and "the science of diving", but the PADI course is good.

just my .02psi

PADI also starts their own Tech diving world. There has been a lot of bashing about PADI's new tech course quality, but I am sure that PADI will catch up the market as soon as there is enough $$$ on the tech market. PADI is very good at smelling money. ;)

.
Yeah soon it will be the way the world learns to tech dive. We'll all be kneeling on the bottom of the quarry with our doubles and stages high fiving each other when we do a correct valve drill

Are we all going to be turtled on our backs with our fins in the air like some neopreme clad porn star, when we have to do our doubles "Remove and Replace" in the water????:rofl3: :rofl3:

Cheers :D

When I teach a PADI or SDI Nitrox course I teach it from the sport diving perspective. When I teach a TDI class I add more theory and gas problems, because I make the assumption that my students are interested in progressing into technical diving at some point in the future.
