Freshwater near Savannah, Ga?

I was wondering if there are any freshwater lakes or quarries near Savannah Ga for diving? Do any of the dive shops have any sites that they manage? Mainly I want to find a site nearby that is good for trying out new gear and techniques.

We are about two hours up the road from you. We dive at Lake Thurmond (AKA Clarks Hill) and the Savannah river. You can see my map posted recently on SB for the lake dive and previous post describe the river dives.

I definitely want to check out those sites sometime, but I was hoping to find somewhere a little bit closer for working out kinks as try out some new skills so that when I get the time to head out for some real diving I'm not trying to work things out then.

However, are those sites pretty easy to self navigate for someone with experience or do they require a little local knowledge?
