About how much weight would I need to offset a 7mm wetsuit, 5mm hood, 5mm gloves and 5mm boots?

From 14 to 32 lbs depending on how big you are, whether it is open cell or closed cell neoprene, a Farmer John with separate hood or one-piece with integrated hood.

Good starting point is use about 3 or 4 lbs less than you would for SCUBA diving.

I am neutrally buoyant at about 30'. Some like 25'. Some like 35'. Trying to get an Abalone at less than 12' is a difficult for me. Abalone at 25'+ are perfect for me.

You can carry a couple of pound on your Boogie or float and tuck it in your suit if additional weight is required. Stick an abalone to your chest will work too if needing additional weight.

what he said.

i like to be neutrally buoyant at about 35 feet. at first you will find it hard to get down and think you need more lead but just keep at it. once you get down a few feet it gets better.

the goal of weighting in free diving is in case of a SWB you will float up and not sink.

when i'm hunting for flat fish in 15 feet i might be over weighted a bit ..... just a bit :D
