Hi!
Just started diving and wanted to say thanks to what looks like a great board, beautifully laid out and very friendly. I'm a retired (more or less) computer programmer living in southern Oregon.

Early experiences in the Pacific Ocean were enough to convince me that, even though I loved swimming, that oceans were bitter, frigid places, best left to animals evolved for stunted nerves and plenty of fat. We had a river to swim in that did not usually run through the house and pleasant with mask and fins in the summertime.
<fast forward 40 years>

My wife and I did a bit of snorkelling in the far east (Koh Phi Phi and Bali) which was way more than enough to convince us to try staying down a bit longer (holding breath not an option). The scenery in those two places is absolutely spectacular - corals and bright, splashy tropical fishies that are better than all known chemical additives.

Couple weeks ago we returned to Central America to try diving with air in Roatan. Beautiful blue water, plenty of coral remaining (tho endangered I'd say) and took the Intro course at PADI school. Had a great time on 4 dives only now I've developed enough blubber to need extra weight to sink causing one near disaster, but not to worry. A great experience, if a bit weird having oceans that warm. Anyone who's swum of the Oregon/Washington coast will know what I mean...

We'll probably take the "learn in a tank BOW" at the local scuba shop and try out for more exotic (and warm) locales in the future. Hoping in advance that you guys can help with various stupid, newbie questions. Thanks!
Terry

Welcome to the board. No questions are stupid - ask all you want - the only stupid thing to do is not to ask.

terrydarc,

Hi! and welcome.
Here you'll be able to get answers to anything you ask, and if no-one knows, they know where to go to find out. I know they've helped me a lot!

Welcome to the boards!

Ask what you want, when you want, about what you want.

This is the best place for a wealth of information.

Enjoy diving, enjoy life!

Hi Terry - congrats on getting certified. If you're looking for warmer climes, the place where I just dived is great. It's a really secluded little beach resort that has several great dive spots off it. Oh yes, it's in the south of Thailand, about 5 hours drive out of Bangkok - the nearest well-known location would be Koh Tao, off Chumphon. Check out http://www.absolutwreck.com/

Anyway, have a look at my first post for a description of what it's like to dive there.

Cheers
Alison

Welcome to the games. You will have a blast here. Not only that but you'll learn lots too.

I always say that there are no stupid (or dumb) questions, just highly unique ones that you need a answer too. We all ask them at some time or another, so don't be shy!
