We did a clean up dive at Sand Hollow Saturday. I had been putting garbage in my front pocket. My wife cleaned up the BCD's Sunday and I went to hang them up tonight. I saw somethign in the pocket and dumped it out. What do ya know a little live Crawdad. Thinking we'll keep him as a pet. anyone know what they eat??

I think they eat anything. Bottom scavengers. They don't live long tho. Hope this helps: The Crayfish FAQ

They love potatos.

tee hee hee.... yes they do.

my photos to prove it:

I used to bring down 6-8 potatoes in the winter and take them down to the bottom to feed the crawfish. People have gotten really bad the past few years about picking up things and bringing them to the surface. I about punched a guy out last year, he brought every one of them back up and was showing them to people at the surface. :angrymob: I think I scared the bejeezus out of him. :D He gave them back to me and I took them back down.

I think the crawfish will eat any veggies, but they only live a year in the hole. They lay eggs in spring, then adults die off every summer.

We put him in a aquarium with some lettuce and fish food. Seems to be digging it so far.

Yeah, they'll eat just about anything of any food value. Most lettuce has virtually none, and fish food may not sink to the bottom well, but drop some raw scraps from the kitchen in.

Is your water soft there? Hard water is better for their shells. When I play with broken chicken eggs in Blue Hole, I leave the shells for them to eat as that water is kinda soft even tho they seem to do ok in it.

They eat potatos, and corn, some lemon, a lot of spice, a bit of sausage I feed lots of them at a time, but they really do not seem to live very long in the boiling water so we just eat them.
