Being that the drysuit season is coming to a halt over here... I was just thinking back how many divers I had seen this winter take that the plunge forgetting to zip up. I must have seen at least a dozen. Although I am not guilty of this yet. How often does this occur elsewhere?

It would occur pretty often in the military, rear entry suits and course sense of humor is not a good combination for cold water diving...

(of course it is funny when you do it to someone else!!)

Ya, we had one of those on a dive charter last year.
He comes up behind you grabs the zipper , yanks it open "say what kind of drysuit underwear are you wearing?" he fakes a look then yanks it closed, but just an inch short of course.

He made a tactical mistake though, I saw him pull this trick on another diver, and he's half my size, so when he approached me from behind, I turned, put my hands in his arm pits, squatted, raised my arms, and leg pressed him over my head and the rail of the boat into the drink. Fortunately his shoulder zipper was closed.

I went to Dutch Springs in March, 2 years ago, with a borrowed drysuit, it was my first open water drysuit dive. The water that day was 36 degrees at depth, and about 40 on the surface. I did all my training in a nice warm pool, think I could have made the mistake there? Nooooo.
I didn't forget to zip up, but I did forget to pull my ponytail all the way through my neck seal, and I got a very quick lesson in how important the seals are!
Ever see someone run across the water surface wearing fins and a tank? I thought it was impossible till I did it myself. :D

I've only seen it once - New Year's Day dive. The poor guy was helping eveyone into the water and when it was his turn, he didn't zip - a very loud "F-ing Zipper!" was hear the whole way across the county that morning. If I remember correctly, there was even a TV News crew there - but they weren't film at that instant...

These are great! The last one that I saw was a DMT... She really isn't all there in the first place... And she is ALWAYS forgetting something.. Fins, mask, weight belt etc.. Well this time she really got to feel the pain of her forgetfulness.(sp?) I just couldn't stop laughing... Because I was really getting sick and tired of baby sitting a DMT like a OW student.. And it sort of made my day to see it happen.. I know it's mean.. but I just couldn't help it.

The problem out here is that it can be warm on the surface. After a dive last year, I had my buddy unzip me, then I became preoccupied with disassembling my gear. I then saw an outdoor shower, and thought, oh, it will be great to rinse the suit off in that...totally forgetting that I was unzipped. When I turned my back to the showerhead -- that's when I felt the cold water running down my back. Oh, the shock!
