Well I started in October of last year completed 2 open water dives and had a slight ear problem that kept me from completing the last 2 at the local gravel pit. Water temp was low enough they stopped for the year. SO I had to wait till spring to complete the last 2. Somehow though before fall and spring I somehow spent about 5000.00 or so on equipment for me and the wife. So I was really hoping I would not have any problems. Went to St Thomas last week with a referal and completed my dives with out a problem other than a computer malfunction which I just figured out. "Operator error". And I realized its true, diving is every bit as fun as shopping for equipment!!! Equipment shopping gets a little addictive!!!! Anyhow thanks to everyone on the board for the help and advice over the last few months.
PS. For anyone it may help. I had a little trouble with the mask clearing when we first started in confined water and the 1st 2 open water dives. I read somewhere on the board a article that gave some advice. I could not remember it all, but what I did remember helped alot. I basically took my mask off and snorkeled around the water with no mask on, "got me used to breathing with no mask" and then when I was comfortable with that I would swim with the mask off but then put it on by hand and hold it there with no strap and clear it. I would then pull it off and do it again. After about 30 times I felt like a pro and could not believe it ever bothered me. Maybe I'm the only one that had the phobia, but if not you might try doing that sometime. It really helped me. Thanks to whoever suggested it.
