Force Fins - my experience

For me, I'll just play games with them underwater. I always enjoy playing the cat and mouse by just easily kicking until they give up. I have yet to find a dive buddy that can keep up and they invariably run out of air 1/2 way into the dive. But that is a mean thing to do and you have to be ready to either dive solo or surface with them (not really good choices), but the point is just let the fins to the talking. I have done races in the pool with people and that shuts them up pretty quickly as well.

To repeat a previous question, why no computers used in the design? I would like to know more about the philosophy behind that.

I'm not affiliated with FF, but I do know Bob, and he doesn't even do email. I don't think there's any "philosophy behind" it, it's just that he uses the tools he knows, and they work for him. I suspect there's an artistic, tactile component to how his designs take form that would be lost with computer as intermediary. But I could be wrong....

I've thought about buying ff several times, but WOW are they expensive... When I go through paricularly murky in the gulf I like to leave it clean and clear behind me... Can I do an effective modified frog kick using these? Also, someone mentioned a thin aqua sock above that would work well with them. I did a google search and did not find anything good. Does anyone have a brand/product that works well for them? I was thinking a thin neoprene with a rubber bottom or just something to have on my feet for traction when getting on the boat... No so much thermal.

Were those your pictures of the Belize trip that were advertised on a different thread? If they were, wow! It looked like a lot of fun, there are some great pics on the site.

I can go with your explanation. I'm an IT professional currently (and in the past) by trade, but I've had a different career which was a blend of "feel" and technical knowledge - a craft is the term that matches it most I believe. So Bob is a craftsman. I can accept that.

Where in the Gulf are you? Would that be the Persian Gulf?

I wear a Finis lycra skin sock, bought it at Leisure Pro (Buy scuba gear, scuba diving and snorkeling equipment, and everything underwater from LeisurePro.com), same place I bought my FF Pros. They help a wetsuit slide on a heck of a lot easier, and make for more comfort in general.

I use the comfort instep with those, else I wear a pair of soft sole booties, same setup as you mention above. They may cost a bit more than the average, but LP sells them at a great price - and I got a small discount on top of that. It's worth the small premium to get them, I can't see myself wearing "old school" fins any more

I did recently outswim two groups of much more experienced divers and easily kept up with an instructor (recently ex-military instructor too). It was quite an eye-opening experience for me, and I got back to the boat fresher despite it - nor was I zombied out on the drive home like before, when I'd used the plank fins.

I posted a link to my photos on an earlier thread: Gale's Travel Photos (password=belize). Not sure if those were the photos Lloyd was talking about or not. I'm anxiously awaiting the rest of Bob's images. I did a lot of modeling for him on this trip (as did Susanne & Avi) and can't wait to see how they turned out!
