Wouldn't work in my current housing which the HC7 wil do... no LANC connector. Big issue for me since I don't want to upgrade both the camcorder AND the housing yet.

Also, it records in the AVCHD format which as that page states is more a consume than professional format, at least at this point. My software will handle the NC7's HDV format but not AVCHD. Don't want to have to upgrade software too... yet.

Yeah, looks like there are quite a lot of trade off's on your side.

About AVCHD, I think a lot of products have not optimized the function of it yet, e.g.
for the article,
"The AVCHD standard has a bit rate ceiling of around 24 Mbps, but to date it has only been implemented at bit rates up to 15 Mbps."

Same here, wanted to get more user feedback for both of the camcorder before buying.

sjspeck:
Does it actually have a LANC port? The HV10 doesn't. Quickly scanning the specs it appears the HV20 doesn't either....

Thanks for telling because I cannot find out if it is present or not from the web page. How about GZHD7?

Where can I get more info about which one has it, and which one does not?
I looked at the HC7 at store, and I could see it, but from the sony-style page, I couldn't find it (can you?)

Do you have any link that would tell? Like this (this site is out dated)

What is LanC

The LanC is a serial connection between the computer and the camcorder or VCR that requires a special cable and communication software to work. The software is incorporated in the RealCap and therefore invisible to the user. The functionality from the RealCap is simple VCR commands like Play, Stop, Pause, Fast Rewind, Fast Forward, Search Rewind, Search Forward, Step +/-.
The cable that connects the VCR or Camcorder to the computer is a special design. The communication is done through a single wire and therefore there has to be some additional electronics incorporated within the cable.
www.signvideo.com For Sony, Canon camcorders. Wired remotes for zoom, focus, record.

Don't think so:
The HD Everio is equipped with three digital interfaces – USB, HDMI and i.LINK.

afaik, only Sony and Canon currently provide LANC ports. So you'd have to get a mechanical housing to use a JVC camcorder. I'd guess Ikelite or Equinox might make one.

If you saw it, then it does....

Under the Specifications tab, about 1/2 way down the page:
Inputs and Outputs
LANC Terminal: Yes (Stereo Mini)

OOps.... sorry wasted your time :)

So there is no site like this
http://www.arielnet.com/Main/camcorders.html

which will give which model which has the LANC port... eh?

Not a problem, I just didn't understand why you were asking about something you'd seen...

Not that I've ever seen. You can find reviews and specifications at camcorderinfo.com for most current models, but not listed by LANC port. I don't follow what Canon does, but anything except the low-end Sony's appear to have LANC. Not sure if this is true on the HDD/HD-DVD models in case you're considering one.

btw, that's a real old list, some of those camcorders haven't been made for 10-15 yrs.
