Advanced Divers/Careyitos -- we have been diving with them for the last ten years. We would not even consider another operator. They dock at Caleta and leave around 9 am returning around 3 pm. It is not a fast boat, but we get to be on the water all day. There is space on the boat if you want sun or shade, even a very clean head. They serve the best lunch during a 90 minute surface interval. Safety is always rule 1. They allow you to dive your tank so dives are anywhere from 60-90 minutes. Plus the DM will always remain in the water until the last diver gets in the boat. The boat crew is always there to help with putting on and taking off the gear. We spent 3 months diving with them (50 dives) last winter. Everyday they made us feel welcome and worked hard to find critters including black tip sharks, toad fish, and seahorses. You do not need to be an advanced diver to,dive with them, but they will help you become a better diver with bouyancy control and breathing. We highly recommend them.

Lunch is the only thing IMO that Living Underwater is missing. Sure, one can order food at the beach bar where we do the SI, but that's not the same as eating lunch on the boat. Also, as I've gone all-inclusive my past few trips, I'd feel I was cheating myself if I paid for food.

Besides, Careyitos, what other dive ops offer lunch and what do they serve? LU provides fresh fruit and baked goods, but that's only an appetizer after I've worked up an appetite diving.

In my 4 visits to the island I have used Dive Paradise and always had a good time. 3 trips were dive shop trips and I really had good time with good DM's. For trips with groups I think DP is a good choice.

The other trip was one that was just me and the wife. I use Blue XTSea for that trip. I really really really liked that trip. I would guess that Blue XTSea would be my favorite dive op about any where I have been.

I can vouch for the lunch served by Careyitos. I have photos of it on one of my hard drives. I was diving with Betsy White who contracted them as our boat ride. Great group but unfortunately a little laid back for my wife who waits patiently for my return. She's a non swimmer so she doesn't understand how we feel about just spending a relaxing day on the water.

Bottom Time Divers -- Owner/Divemaster is Raul Platas. My first dive in Cozumel 1995 with Dive paradise was not good so found Blue Bubble where I met Raul and Pedro Pablo. Both great Divemasters and "good people". Been with Bottom Time ever since. Keeps my gear year round does all the service for me, he is a hunter and can find the tiniest of things so of course we are not rushed and get long bottom times. Raul is friends with other OPS and when I'm his only diver he will make arrangements for me to dive with others. Been with Allison, Living Underwater, Tony, BXTS(Pedro Pablo works there) all great diving folks and a few more but always go back to Bottom Time.

We did 3 dives with Dive with Martin in May of 2011 on a day trip from the mainland.
Since then, we've been back to Coz 3 times and we've always dove with Aldora. Fast boats, big tanks, a SI at Mr Sanchos with yummies, and valet service. Our favorite guides are Julio and his wive Ali, but honestly we've never met anybody at Aldora that wasn't cool.
We've never stayed at the Aldora Villa, mostly because Sue and Kim are really hooked on the convenience of AI, but we've done some shore diving from there.

OK here goes. You are going to think I'm nuts, and I think most of you are nuts.

We like to stay on the mainland, (that's where you think I'm nuts). At some point we'll stay on the island, (but not for the next trip in March/April), so getting to the island to make most departures would be difficult if not impossible. Hence, we chose/choose an op that offers afternoon dives.

Now here's the part where I think you're nuts. Like most, we work hard, and have earned our vacation. A big part of that is sleeping in, whether we've been up late whooping it up or not. Damned if I'm going to set the alarm on vacation --- even if it's to go diving.

We, up until this coming trip, were wife, two boys and myself. (Now the oldest is off to college, and the youngest -- a senior in high school will stay here under the close supervision of neighbors). We are not wealthy, so cost, multiplying everything by 4, was certainly a consideration, and after hours and hours of research, settled on Scuba Mau. It worked out wonderfully. (As an aside, of the DM's that we had, Gabi was ironically, the most hands on, mother henish, and restrictive.)

Next trip was scheduled not long after the accident, and I was concerned about the shop remaining in business. so chose another shop. Captain was fabulous --- DM ??? well, lets say we won't be back.

Next trip was Opal's Dream, (Mau had demonstrated to my satisfaction that he is a tool), and again the trip exceeded our expectations, with Julio as our DM. Opal's Dream takes care of our gear too, meeting our other must have criteria, and prices are still very competitive.

The boat is nothing fancy, just a very run of the mill 6-pack, but as long as the engine starts and we don't sink, I'm good. Vicky in the office, generally answers emails in a few minutes. The captain is good, dropping right where we're supposed to be dropped.

If we are forced to go somewhere else, for whatever reason, the next shop will have to meet our two must haves.

We've been to Cozumel three times and have stayed and dove with Blue Angel all three times. I like the convenience of our rooms to the location of the dive shop. I like that I don't have to haul my gear all over the place. A restaurant on premises is nice and Jorge as a DM for swim throughs and Jose as DM finding the macro stuff gives me a nice change of pace. All the DM's and Captains work hard to see that the guest enjoy themselves.

Dove on Cozumel in 2010 with Scuba Tony. When we go back to Cozumel I am going to try Living Underwater. Scuba Tony was great and looked after my gear, but just going to try something different.
