Don't you get it? The answer choices are STANDARDIZED!!!!!
Ahhhhh... yes... I see it now...
(I had written a long answer but decided it was a waste of time)

Whose exactly, Grajan .. ?
Yhea, I'm interested in the answer to this one as well, since I've been fairly quiet until the DIR bashing started simultaneously in two forums. If it weren’t so pitiful it'd almost be funny how the DIR bashers get their knickers in a twist when a DIR proponent defends the system from their insults.

I guess we're expected to roll over and play dead and let them have free reign to bash DIR all they want without meeting any resistance.

Won’t happen folks. Dive any way you want, I don’t give a hoot. But if you’re so juvenile that the only way to boost your self-confidence in the way you dive is to bash the DIR system, expect to meet resistance.

Hmmm... all the bashing I've seen has been about the use of the term "DIR" ... and the insistance by some that it's the "only" way.
Who, exactly, has bashed the system? Where?
(I have taken issue with a specific procedure, but it went unnoticed - or at least unpursued)

It amazes me that ya'all take this stuff so seriously. That is what makes it so tempting to have a little fun. But, I'm being good. :( I mean step back and take a look, some guy learns how to dive, develops a system that works for him and his buddies, shares it with others and probably makes a little money at it. Then, all the sudden divers by the score get quasi-religious over it because of the name? Or, because the system is comprehensive? This is entertainment at it's finest! I have a plagerized sign hanging on my wall. It says, "never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." I wonder if it might be applicable in this case. (No, I am not refering to the way that anyone choses to do their dives.)

Anyway, never had a DIR class but I think that I am a better and safer diver because of the contributions of those that have had the classes and contribute to this board. It often provides a proven alternative to the way that I currently dive and it emphasizes good trim, bouyancy, finning, etc. Accordingly, I voted in favor thereof.

The title is the issue isn't it? Why is it necessary to be for or against anything, unless of course that DIR is really saying all other approaches are wrong, which is not what I have been getting out of all this.

I'm not against DIR, except perhaps the attitude [but I've gotten over that... now I don't care]. I'm not for DIR either, as don't have the complete picture yet. Most of what I've found with DIR I accept, or agree with [and adopt], there's a few things here and there that I don't understand enough to make an opinion....

For me, the biggest impediment to accepting the whole DIR concept, is presented courtesy of DIR adherents who come across as zealous religious proseletyzers. Whether many intend to or not, they come across as having found a way, the only way, with many positive attributes but no negative ones. Unfortunaletly life is not that simple.

When you claim that your system is better than mine, but then fail to explain under questioning any drawbacks it may have, you are claiming something which does'nt exist, except in peoples mind. So you then leave it up to me to find those negative qualities from other sources. This also makes me much more skeptical of all the claims being presented, since you are obviously in denial of reality, or are simply misleading me.

Show me a coin with one face and I'll show you the face of a fool looking at it.
