I was the one who said that. But I added the part that I would want to pay for a sticker outright, not in increments -- as in ticket by ticket.

So it was you....I was large_diver's buddy on the first dive, and I thought the idea was genius.

Guilty.

Genius? Why thank you. My current job has trained me on how to get around bureaucratic red tape while still managing to please the bureaucrats. Perhaps I should find a way to pitch it to the Rockport and Gloucester city counsels?

BTW, nice to have met you!

Eileen

I am from the north shore. My parents have lived in Gloucester for 20 years. Nothing pisses me off more than all the limiting of access that we have in this country. Gloucester and Rockport should hang a welcome sign out for divers and all other recreationalists for that matter. Gloucester is even trying to stop second home owners from getting beach parking stickers. Good luck with your ticket and I hope those two cities make their parking regulations more clear.

Ahhhh - this was a fun thread to read.... Brought back memories of when I earned my wings (or should I say tanks) and a couple tickets in Gloucester and Rockport! I'll remember this as I feed the meters here in Sunny South Florida and walk the few feet to the reef. Give my regards to Back Bay.

I started diving Cape Ann 30 yrs ago. It was the same back then. All you wanted to do was have a good time and enjoy a dive. But in the back of your mind you always had to worry about being harressed by some government official. One suggestion I would make is to get a small boat. You don't need to invest a lot of money. I just sold a small tri hull with a 25 hp for 1200.00. I dove off it more than once. You avoid all the shore hassells. I dive from a 17 ft Boston Whaler now. And so far, three yrs I have not had any problems with officials. Good luck.

Agreed, if it is not posted then you can fight this in court easily. Courseyou may lose time off work just to go to the court room...

Check the state laws.
In most states they must have parking regulations posted to be enforceable. Otherwise they can just make it up as they go along.

I remember in Long Beach, CA, many years ago the City decided they could make a lot more money if the ticked cars on the street during street sweeping time, even if the street was not swept. In court the people won and the court ruled that the street sweeping tickets could only be issued if the car actually blocked the street sweeper.

Fighting a ticket is not worth the hassle.

I spent Monday in Maine clearing a speeding ticket from July 6, 1979. Not a typo. Ticket was 30, penalties 45.

Good thing Maine does not have the insurance hook up with Mass, getting bad boy points for a 25 year old offence.
Clock starts ticking when you pay er plead guilty.

Still it was better than the $230 I got last year in Little Falls, NY

I agreed with PeaceDog - As someone who (in a previous life) was involved with state politics for over 10 years, politicians only understand 3 things - Money, votes and money. Unless we live in their local community, we cannot deliver them votes, but if divers donated to their campaigns - or paid for a parking permit of some type for additional revenue for a town, they would surely listen to divers.

There are more divers in MA than there are lobstermen/women, but us divers are not organized and don't usually stand up and fight city hall.

I was looking on line at the Gloucester site yesterday and they do actually have non-resident parking stickers for $250 bucks. The site says they are limited and I am sure hard to get. My friends did a night dive at Plum this past week and they parked on High st only to have one tire on each car slashed. The female officer replied "well people have been stealing lobsters". I hope this situation does not get worse...Fireguy
