ok, you're allowed one checked bag-55lbs. (except i'm flying American Airlines to get to Grand Cayman and so my checked bag needs to be 50lbs).....and to little cayman you're only allowed one 15lb carryon. so.........that does not mean a 15lb carryon, plus a purse, or whatever, right? just 15lbs. (which will be my reg/camera gear and very small purse inside reg/camera bag i guess) wow, hope i can be under 50 lbs with the rest of my gear, clothes, toiletries, etc. and have a little leeway for damp gear coming back. we went to Saba last year and had tough restrictions and made it, but i didn't have the camera gear then.

On the Cayman Airways hopper, it's 55 lbs. total, including carry-on, but I don't thinkthey care about how many pieces. If you're travelling on a Saturday, their by-far busiest day, they can be quite strict about weighing all of your pieces, although I don't know if they would want to weigh a small purse. If you're returning to GCM on a Saturday, they'll often ask everyone to pre-check at least one bag by Friday afternoon which they send ahead and you get it before going back to the US on Saturday. That kind of solves the problem on the way back since they don't weigh you both days.

As with Saba, at least with the small planes and limited runways, you feel like they are genuinely concerned with weight limits and not just looking for ways to get more money. I came back on a Wednesday a couple of weeks ago and they didn't even bother to weigh our stuff since the plane wasn't full.

is the cayman airways hopper different than the twin otter?? their website says you get a 15lb carryon. (and a 55 lb checked bag)

We got back from Little Cayman two weeks ago - Twin Otter from GC to LC etc. It was 15 lbs carry and 55 lbs for the check bag. We each had two carry on bags. The checked bag was weighed and then all the carry on bags were weighed together. We were over 55lbs and under 70lbs for each of us. We didn't pay.

cool. thanks hawkwood. then i don't have to stuff my purse into the bag with my reg and camera:) just keep the total at 15 or less. thanks for the clarification:) hubbie's reg is titanium, so it's lighter. i should make him carry my bag:)
