Is anyone diving the Flower Gardens on July 15-16? I'm headed down there with Scubaland and I'm just checking to see who all might be going. Hope to hear from ya'll.

Headed down this coming weekend -- IF the weather cooperates! It's always a fun time diving the Gardens.

I heard the fling was involved with the oil spill clean up and had cancelled some FGB trips. I wonder if that's the case or was it just idle hearsay....if anyone knows I'm sure there would be many interested in hearing about it.

I'm hoping to get to the FGB sometime this summer.

Nope, I'm diving the FG the trip just before yours. I'll be getting off the boat the day you get ON.

As of Friday the trips weren't affected by to oil spill. I'm hoping that continues.

Carrie, while it is possible that the spill will affect large swaths of the Gulf and the FG if the currents do a few strange things, I have to try to keep things in perspective. The 1980 Ixtoc (I think I have that spelled correctly) spill in the southern Gulf of Mexico poured oil into the Gulf at more than ten times the rate of this spill for NINE MONTHS. While there was undoubtedly damage, the Gulf recovered, and reasonably quickly. I certainly hope that the powers-that-be get a handle on this spill very soon, but I also have to hold onto the faith that the Gulf will have the ability to heal. Hopefully, the damage will be minimized and the sea will return to "normal".
