I've got an A70 that is in need of repairs. It only takes all black pics. Is this camera worth having repaired or would I be better off getting a new camera (A570, A720, etc.) for learning?
All I want is a UW camera that takes better pics than a disposable for snorkeling.

If you don't already have the housing. No it's not worth it. The new A series is much better and you can take some pretty decent video with it.

Call Canon about their customer loyalty program (866-443-8002), you can send in your broken A70 and buy a refurbished camera at a much much discounted price.

I just trade in a broken S200 for a Refurbished Rebel Xt for 300 bucks shipped.

I think for a A70 you could get:
A560 - $89
SD1000 - $100
SX100 IS - $125

That might have changed now.

Thanks. I figured I'd be better off with new. Best Buy had housings on sale $50 for the A70. But the trade-in idea sounds like it would be better in the long run. I'll give Canon a call.
