Hey all,

Headed away for the first time with my rebreather - Inspiration.

Any tips on packing? Keep head with unit or put in carry-on? Etc.

Thanks!

Head on carry on, take some spare orings, O2 grease, and i carry a multi tool and a mushrrom kit (it has the inside barrel o ring too), I travel with mine with wing CL's installed on dispatched bag.
Regs, head and loop on carry on. I've Managed even to take the yellow box, not only travel frame, this way on a large lightweight hard case. Of course you may end with at least an oversized carry on, or, two dispatched bags.
Talk in advance which tools and consumables/spares the destination dive center has, you may need to carry more or less stuff based on this information

Of course the frame/shell wings and CLs with t pieces and ADV should be on a rigid bag, and you may put some hoses, accessories tucked inside the frame or shell for protection

It would help to know where you plan to go. While it is temping to bring an entire tech shop, if you go to destinations where rebreathers may be common, I'd bring the bare minimum. @Heat Miser 's list is spot on, but I have an entire spare loop. I don't know how Inspiration electronics are setup, and you may want to include a backup monitor/controller.

Bare Minimum

  • Full spare DSV.
  • One spare loop hose (one side)
  • Two brand new O2 cells
  • Full o-ring kit
Here's where travelling with buddies that dive compatible units is handy. You dont all need these spares individually if you can share resources

I briefly owned an inspiration for a group trip across the world for this very reason.

Ordinary four-wheeled suitcases work if packed thoughtfully, often saving weight (can stay under standard limits) and walkability over specialized cases. Less conspicuous for getting 'lost,' pulled aside or 'taxed'

Bring an empty plastic spray bottle with a steramine tablet in it. Bring a light plastic jug with a line drawn on in the inside to the level of sorb needed to do a fill. Add in several microfiber towels. Equip your bailout regs so you can fall back to scuba if required.

Meg Tiburon (previously a KISS Classic) traveler. I pack two extra cells. Always. More batteries. When I go to somewhere like Bikini I usually change Orings ahead of time. I always bring an extra Shearwater controller. Because of my camera gear I have to pack my head in my check in assembled to the canister. I put the loop in with my carryon along with a mask. By doing this as soon as the security guy opens up my carryon in secondary (and my stuff always gets pulled out) the mask tells them immediately that this is scuba gear. I don't bring a spare loop hose. I don't bring spare DSV. I take care of that before I go. I bring a crescent wrench. allen keys, and a 5/16 socket driver. For longer trips I've started throwing in a couple of tabs of Steramine or Vikon to disinfect the loop hoses halfway through.

And I always have my Visa card. Because I either travel with 3 check in bags or I'm overweight on one of my check-ins.
