Wouldn’t worry too much about ’tourist inferno’ or ’highly touristically contaminated zones’ in and around Sharm theese days. I haven’t been ”in” Sharm though since when France won the cup the first time, but as we sailed past Sharm last year one of the guides who lived and worked there since the early 2000’s and up until 2015 described it as a ”ghost town”. Good or bad? Depends on who you are. We saw a handful of boats over three days diving Thistlegorm - RasMo - Strait of Tiran. In October/November. Just like the old days — 30-40 years ago.
You're right, tourism has decreased a lot because of the political context in this part of the world (did I say it on a "politically correct" way ?).
It's increasing again now. Still many russians, as they tried to fill the hotels after the gulf wars with other tourists, as europeans were gone.
Last time I went on the Thistlegorm, ( 2017 - we stayed there for the night) there were 2 - 3 boats all the time... and the wreck is now quite damaged by the divers (I took pictures 20 years ago) but still worth seeing it.
If you only do one dive in the Red Sea, ever, it should be the Thistlegorm.
I've been to Sharm several times, the diving is fantastic.
