I'm a Fish!
Hello , Sorry if this is a dumb question .. Looking for a first stage just to use as an air blower and tire inflater .. Thinking (used) one of the diaphragm ones Mares, Dacor, USD that all used that same HP Seat .. Saw where the "generic" seats are available .. any suggestions ? Thanks Don J.

I’d say the simplest and most “available” reg to you, if you have something that’s in time for “retirement”

I’m not so sure if actually needed, but I’d consider an OPV (or any sort of pressure relif) depending on the tyre fill connection

Another alternative is something like this (can’t give this a proper label)

I was getting rid of some of these a few days ago (already found a home for them) that I found in a box of random parts I bought a while back— learned a lot about seats I don’t have use for 😅
I believe Trident and Scubagaskets among other places sell these square poppets with a blue seat

Do you have an OPV on your breathing regulators other than the second stages

Not generally as most of my 2nds fail NO mot NC
I don’t know if a tyre fill on a hose does the same

Any reg should do, right?

A few years ago I hustled one of my SM bottles (I never pursued training) and an extra Dive Rite FT1 into their second career of paddock service. The extra long LP hose, tire and blower chucks came from DGX. Not sure why I need anything beyond the button gauge.

I’ve totally skipped annual services but the reg is still going strong for me as a track day rider, a coach with Yamaha Champions Riding School and a race team manager in the MotoAmerica race series (no fail environment).

Any 1st stage will be fine. Add an OPV since the failure point of a 1st stage is typically IP creep that is typically relieved by a 2nd stage that has a small leak. Mine is a simple cut the low presure hose going to the 1st stage and press in a hose barb and clamp it. The only real money involved is getting an OPV.

This is my shop/tire air setup. This is a 1st stage that is externally adjustable with an allen wrench. One Scuba > 1/4 NPT Male adaptor, then a 3-way manifold (standard hardware store air fitting stuff. This one had a 1/2" inlet so needing a reducer bushing). 200psi relief valve (about $7 on the jungle site).

Has a button HP gauge on it, but I'm building a 2nd one and will probably leave the HP gauge off since never seem to find out the cylinder is empty other than by not getting any more air out of it.

Just assembled this one:

Oceanic reg from the dive shop "discard" bin (offer some beer money, but cheap to free is the goal...)
This one can be adjusted just with an allen wrench, no disassembly required.

3-way shop air manifold - comes with 3 quick-connectors. - $15
0-300 psi 1/4" NPT gauge - $10
Reg Port to 1/4NPT adaptor - $17 (if these were cheaper, it might make sense to forego the 3-way manifold and make the whole thing a little more compact)
200psi Relief (to be added when it arrives) - $7 - I prefer this instead of the tiny scuba reg one like you can get at DGX since it can be manually released to bleed the system if you forget before disconnecting the air tool. It'll replace one of the 2 connectors on the manifold)
