Wow..... I was worried about the swim and water tread. The swim was a breeze, I did most of it on my back. The water tread was tougher, but the instructor talked about everything under the moon so we didn't think about it. Regardless, we were able to suit up and finally breath some underwater. We accomplished everything that is in our 3 pool dives!!! We spent 4 hrs. playing around. I am so freaking excited!! I love it!!

I am having a little problem with the fins though, I kept bending my knees to much. Nothing but a little more time to work it out. Thanks for everyones post on the swimming part, it made it very easy for me.

With the "baptism" behind in the pastyou will start to focus on details like your kick one by one until you begin to feel like you have your act together. Some stuff will be hard in a crowded pool but will fall into place in the big blue sea, quarry or lake. It's a learning process and you have just made the single biggest step.

Have fun and good luck with the rest of the course.

Pete

The first time breathing scuba is always exciting, congratulations! Your finning (and breathing) techniques will get better with practice. Did you do mask removal yet? That's another hurdle.....

Yes we did the mask removal, I really did very good with that. My partner panicked and probably will have to practice a little. The instructor removed our reg. and put it behind us. I couldn't find the dang thing.....Luckily I had enough air in my lungs, I finally found it and was successful. My tank was a little too low so I couldn't reach behind by head to find it.

Kinda fun huh?:D

Congrats!! Welcome to your new hobby!!
I was a Safety Diver for my instructor again this weekend while he put a new class through the Confined portion. It is always so cool to watch them go from "I'm not sure I can do this" to taking off the BC's underwater and putting them back on, hovering, CESA and all those other things that were "unimaginable" just the day prior. It's easy to understand why Instructors don't get paid much, but still do it. Very rewarding. :snorkel:

congrats!!!! i did my pool session two weeks ago and going far the open water check out dives this coming up weekend my hardest thing was mask removal did not like the sound of it before and still dont like however getting better at doing good luck in your certification adventure

Having just finished up not many moons ago and with not many dives under my belt, I can definitely say that it was extremely exciting. I have gone through my pool sessions and my open water dives and I'm certified and I love it! Keep going with it and enjoy it!

The mask clearing skill where you take the mask off is the hardest thing in your OW certification in my opinion...

Something my dive instructor (also works with me at the police department) said that I find really helpful is to "make sure you take a deep breath, relax and enjoy yourself... because if you tense up or panic, you aren't going to have fun and you aren't going to be safe." So... be safe and stay relaxed and calm and you'll do great!

I've already made tons of friends at my dive shop and hopefully will make a ton here now that I found ScubaBoard. Congrats.
