Hi guys,

I am an aowd with around 40 dives and planning to get my first own BCD for our upcoming Trips Next years, since we are Going to do 3 liveaboards in Maldives, Palau and Komodo.

I only do dives in Salt and tropical water, so it should be comfortable to Travel with.

I am actually thinking of getting a BP/W But unfortunately I cannot test one before and have Never dived with one yet. I only do recreational diving and no techdiving and just one Tank.

I read good things about Xdeep ghost but I also about Tecline peanut. Additonally, Scubapro Hydros could be an Option as well, as I could get it used with around 20 dives for 550 dollars.

What should I go for? Or should I Go for something Else?

Thanks a lot and best wishes :)

I have BP/W's and the SP Hydros Pro. I use the Hydros almost all the time for recreational single-tank diving for local and travel. I don't use BP/W for single-tank recreational diving anymore, except when testing a new rig.

All friends and former students who bought the Hydros Pro (and the X) are very happy with it including those who had BP/W prior to buying the Hydros (recreational single tank diving). It is good for local diving, I use it with up to a 7mm suit, and for traveling to tropical places where I wear a 1.5mm suit. Very adjustable and customizable for my use.

Note: I own a dive school and have many style/brand/model's of BC's and get to try and test many others.

If I was only doing tropical dive travel I’d definitely still be on my hydros pro (but super heavy legs and a squeezy drysuit have me on a 10 lb backplate to trim out.) The hydros gets super compact for carry on with the lightweight waist belt installed. And it’s not some compromise travel BCD that won’t work everywhere. Do make sure that you’re not getting the 1st gen shoulder straps on your used rig- they’ll tear apart at the most inconvenient time. I think 2019 and newer, maybe 2018, or replaced after breaking are all good

I am a newbie diver. I just bought my first BC - SP Hydros Pro. I can tell you that from the moment I put it on and entered the water I was a completely new diver. My trim improved dramatically. The BC is super comfortable. It dries out very quickly. Much better than the rental jackets that I dove with before. It is also light for travel. I am totally happy with my purchase. I know the tech guys dive with BPW exclusively, but I am a normal recreational diver and from my perspective the Hydros is a good BC. I was also considering a Halcyon Eclipse with a carbon BP and I tried it out in a dive shop (no diving with it). To me, the Hydros is much more comfortable and that's why I decided to go for it. My advise for you would be to make a list of possible BCs you like and try to find them locally to you. Then go, see them in person, try them and get the one that fits you the best. Good luck. Please let us know what you bought and what are your impressions after you dive with it
