Congratulations on both your certifications. I remember that Nov. day very well. "Congratulations you are an OW diver" he said. Though I did fine in the course, I felt it was a major accomplishment, sort of like joining a group of people separated from the rest. Soon your exhaustion will greatly lessen and you will know exactly what to expect with dealing with gear and when to swear.

I found in my first few dives I was so amped up about getting my gear together, hauling it to the entry point, putting it on, doing it all the right way in front of others, that my heart was actually pounding. This was before even getting in the water! S-l-o-o-o-o-w everything down. Take your time. Enjoy the process before...during...and after the dive. It's all part of the experience. Congratulations on becoming a diver!!

As part of slowing everything down....

This should include initial entry to the water. I take my time gearing up, trying not to rush. But once in the water, I still take a few minutes to orient myself, relax my breathing, and ensure I am comfortable before descending.

Yes! didn't even think to note this, but it's truly great advice. I do the same when I'm in the water before I descend. It really helps put you in the right mindset for the dive.

Congrats on your dives!
