Hi All,

I am so excited to head out on my first dive to Casino Point with my dive instructor tomorrow. I have spent many many hours in the water free diving but never scuba. Going to be awesome!!! Any advice for this first timer?

Do everything your instructor tells you and wait until you're at the bottom of the stairs before donning your fins. The steps can get really slippery. Also, and this is very important, stay to the right, just like driving here. Often times divers will block the path when others are trying to get in and out of the water. Remember to have fun.

Hope you get to see the resident Black Sea Bass out there!

Enjoy your dives. I've done thousands in the dive park alone and have not tired of it yet. The nasty invasive Asian seaweed (Sargassum horneri) is largely gone so you can more easily see the reefs and subjects of interest. Visibility has been reasonably good (much better than the mainland) although it can get far better. With any luck you'll run into a giant sea bass as they are being sighted with some regularity in the park now.

sweet, about the Sargassum being gone. I did not know that. might be time to come over.

It's an annual so it dies out every spring or early summer

howdy and welcome from south Florida...hope you had a great dive.....we all want to hear all about it.

Welcome and I dove casino point last weekend, we had 50' vis and saw three large sea bass- one of them had to be a few hundred pounds, or it seemed like it...lol. They were Off to the right side at about 40-60 '. Watch for bits of broken glass in the parking lot area, as you can see it most everywhere. Bathrooms are in a nice sense- really well used...lol. ( not for the faint hearted). The dives I did there were great, I ejoyed the warmer water temps (60@85') instead of 46-54. Can't wait to hear you adventure.
