Hi everyone,
This is my first post here so please try not to murder me.

I'm a relatively new diver, and have been using a Pro QD since I started. I've gotten tired of the bulk of it, though, so I've decided to get a BP/W. Like I said earlier, I'm new, so I don't really know much about the subject. I thought that getting on here and reading up about BP/W's would help me find a nice setup, but I was wrong. I read something about some setup and decide to consider that one, than I read something else and decide to not get that one, but to get something else, etc. etc. Basically it feels like I'm trying to divide zero. (And coming from an aviation background, you'd think I'd know all about dividing zero. (Thanks FAA...:wierdo: )). Anyway, I've come to the conclusion that I should either go with OxyCheq or DSS.

I've found this- http://www.golemgear.com/pc-217-2-oxycheq-30-signature-ss-combo.aspx , and it seems like a good deal. My question for you, is whether this will treat me well, or if I should keep browsing.

I live in NC, so all of my dives so far have been in fresh water, and I intend on keeping it that way for the most part. (Call me crazy but I have very little desire to dive in the ocean.)

I'd also like to know if I do buy this, what other hardware I need. Besides the obvious, cam straps, and weight system.

I don't know about most of you, but for me this is a large investment, so I really want you to be honest with me.

Sorry for the long winded post, I really appreciate any help.

Hey Scott,

I've been looking into a BP/W set up as well. I have to say that the DSS Single Tank Rig looks better built and is less expensive than the Oxycheq you're considering. The DSS seems to have a lot of well thought out little details included, from the harness hardware to the wedge blocks on the cam straps. But I'll admit that I'm not speaking from experience here...so let the flaming begin.

Hi Scott,

Let me know if I can answer any questions.

BTW I like your avatar, looks fast just sitting there. TurboProp no doubt. KingAir maybe?

Hi Tobin,
I will definitely take you up on that offer in the next couple of days.

And yes, that is a King Air. A BE20 to be precise.

Thanks, Scott

ok this is what i would get a dive rite aluminum plate if you doing fresh water or you can do SS if you want a little more weight. i currently have a oxycheq signature series 30# wing and i love it! its a nice donut shape. hardware you would need is a good length of webbing for a harness, dont bother getting those fancy harnesses. two cam bands, two plastic "sex bolt", metal belt sliders, D rings, belt buckle, and weight pouches. thats about it.

What part of NC you in? I have a few bp wing combos in rental and more new ones in the shop you could take a look at. I carry agir, diverite, and OMS. Also have a few others laying around.

For some advice I would decide what sort of harness to go with. I like either the standard Hog harness of the diverite transplate. Let me know if I can help.

In what way?

I just recently purchased a DSS LCD 30 wing, SS backplate, and hog harness. It is basically exactly the same as what you had a link to, but mine was about $100 less. So far it has worked great, but I have also heard that oxycheq makes a good product.

The only new hardware I needed was a weightbelt. Mine came with the cambands.

Good Luck!

No, not the same.
They are both 30 # wings and a plate, but there a number of differences which have been discussed at length on this board (sorry all).
For one, the Signature series is a donut while the LCD is a horseshoe.

I was more referring to the fact that they are hog harness/30# wings, but I now realize it didn't come across this way. You are right about the horseshoe vs. donut, but in talking with Tobin he seemed to think it didn't make much of a diffirence with single tanks. Sorry for the confusion.

N339SM, when I bought my setup (november), DSS was having a clearance of their LCD wings so mine was considerably cheaper than a torus wing. I ended up paying around $430 for the whole thing, which is considerably less expensive than the setup you posted a link to. You should talk to Tobin and see what he can do.
