I'm interested in pursuing ice/cold water diving here in Colorado. Challenge is that most of the dive shops are geared to the resort/destination diver... Ice diving doesn't seem to be nearly as common here as the Great Lakes, etc.

Any ideas what prerequisites would be a good idea? I'm expecting my Naui advanced card in the mail, and have about 60 dives, perhaps 20 in my drysuit in the Puget Sound, and other cold water.

All my equipment right now is geared towards cold water, and I'm diving a backplate and wing.

What steps might I take to pursue ice. Maybe it is just the wrong time of year to get started...

We are scheduled to do an ice dive at Wellington Lake in early Feb.

Where in Colorado you're located would help (click "User CP" towards the top of the page, then "Edit profile" and fill in your location).

In Colorado Springs, Diver's Reef is running an Ice Diving class in February. Class and pool on the 5th and 7th, diving the 10th and 11th. They usually dive the upper lake of Twin Lakes between Buena Vista and Leadville.
