A few weeks back a friend his wife and myself went camping at a local dive spot. This spot has about 6 exposed wrecks roughly 20 mtrs of the beach and is a popular overnight anchorage for boaties. We started our dive at the first wreck and followed our tracks back. We decided to stay on the bottom on the way back to the beach to keep out of most of the current. On the way back with the mate in front of me we swam over a little sand bar, and sitting on the sand bar was a boat rod with as I latter found out was a $300 reel upon it. This finished off a great dive for me. So with rod and reel in hand I surfaced ( it probably looked a bit like Excalibur appearing out of the lake) and just happened to come up behind a small half cabin with two guy's having a fish out the back of it. I turned to them and told them that they were wasting their time as I had been down there for an hour with a fishing rod and caught bugger all. The look on their faces was priceless. We have plans to do a special sweep under the main anchor section next time we go over just to see what else lurks beneath. Has anyone else ever found anything of interest.

I found a $20 bill. It paid for the after dive food and drinks, also found a knife, tickle stick, weights, spear gun of some sort, and recently a dive light that still works.

A friend of mine who used to dive, also found a deep sea rod while diving. when he checked it to see if it worked, he found he had a large grouper on the other end. He said he had a heck of a time getting it in! Fish story? I don't know, but he swears it's true.

I found a weight belt several months ago, and tried to locate the owner...No joy...

so, I have an extra...

I think Rick Inman still gets the award for the most interesting salvage. At least in 2003. Who knows about 2004.

the Feds took my salvage

Have found a couple of weight pouches w/ weights, a snorkle, a few snorkel keepers, a HUGE salmon spoon in Lake Michigan, empty shotgun shell casings, a fishing line with a cute crawfish lure on it.

All pretty much junk, but finding something, anything, is really fun.

My husband found a watch and another buddy found a compass. I keep looking for ... well for whatever....

We regularly find fishing tackle and anchors - including perfectly servicable rod/reel combos. Anchors are for the taking around here - lots of people screw up and foul them on wrecks, and have no choice but to cut them loose.

I don't bother with the ones that I have no use for.... but occasionally find something useful.

While diving in Japan, found a mail box. Battered and empty. It was 2'x18" something that would be hung on a post, not the free standing kind.

Also, while diving in Northern Japan, found a lot of ceramic fish net weights. They are shaped like a cylinder with a hole running through the middle. Fishermen string the bottom part of a net through these weights to hold the net down. The weights themselves are usually tan, with an electric blue Japanese character (owners name or company) stamped in. Quite the conversation piece. They are about 3"-4" long.

While in the States, have found the usual stuff; knives, weight belts, weight packets, slates and a brand new Fortress Danforth Anchor (#18 I believe). Couldn't have been underwater for more than a week.

I didn't find it diving, just wading out to the boat. Who ever dumped it didn't have the key, looked like they opened it with an axe! Must have been from a burglary. The park service came and hauled it off.
