I have had a knot (not particularly painful) on the top of my right foot where my fins (both pairs) are rubbing a place. My fins are Force Fins with inserts and spring straps worn with summer booties and Aqualung FlexBlades II with 5mm booties and spring straps. So even with the thicker booties, the knot feels swollen and this has been there for 6 weeks now, and doesn't seem to be going away after resting. Any ideas? Either on if I need to see a dr. or if I need new fins and if so, any recc?

My feet have high arches and I owned three pairs of fins before finding the right pair. I had to wrap my feet in duct tape to avoid painfully rubbing my skin away.

I have Tusa xpert zooms with spring straps. Maybe you need longer straps to give you a little more movement. If that doesn't work, try some different fins. If your shoes don't rub where your fins do, I think you've found the answer. As a last resort, you can always try the duct tape. Good luck.

You might try lycra or skin socks. They keep friction from developing over protuberant parts of your feet. They help keep your boots cleaner, skin cells and toe cheese are trapped by the sock.

You could also try stretching parts of your fin's foot pocket. I have used a golf ball clamped against the open end of a 2 1/2" PVC pipe end cap. Place the golf ball on the inside of the footwear, at the tight part, with the open side of the end cap over the ball on the outside. Then apply a "C" clamp to stretch the foot pocket wall out.

Finally, could your spring straps bee too tight?

Here's a tall skin sock:

Here's a short lycra sock:

Thanks for the input...I do wear neoprene socks under my boots....It just feels like I've developed a bone spur (?) on the top of my foot... right where the top of the fin (on both pairs) rubs the very top of my foot...the spring straps don't feel too tight, so I may try stretching the foot pocket...Thanks again for the input!

I used to get pretty painful spots on my feet especially if I was diving a lot and hadn't been diving that much recently.

I solved the problem by rotating between two different brands of boots with the seems and openings at different spots on my foot/ankle.

I know this doesn't quite answer your question, but maybe by changing things up and letting the area heal (if both sets of fins rub hard on the same spot you might have to get a 3rd set or borrow someone's until your foot heals) you will get used to it and not have the knot anymore.

After a month of switching between boots, neither rubs any raw spots on my feet. Granted my pain was due to sand and salt in my boots, but perhaps the same concept will work for you.
