I am planning a diving trip to fiji in april. I love sps coral and would like to find destinations where there is lots to be seen. Also anyone who has any info on some good dive sites other than sps dominant I am interested as well. I will be there for 2 weeks so I will have plenty of time to get around. Thanks in advance for any advice...

You will find both sps and lps hard corals as well as soft corals throughout Fiji. The areas where I’ve seen the largest growths of sps coral lately have been in the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups, Beqa, Kadavu, the Vatu-I-Ra channel (north of Viti Levu) and Taveuni. However, I don’t think that you would be disappointed anywhere in Fiji.

I have been to Beqa Lagoon Resort and the diving and resort are great. In fact, we are headed back in Jul for another 10 days. The resort offers two-tank dives in the morning and unlimited shore diving. The resort is wonderful and the food is really good. However, I would not classify it as a 5-star resort. The rooms are large and comfortable, all meals are outside, and there are afternoon activities relating to the Fiji culture. If you want a lot of top side action then Beqa is not the place to go. Beqa Lagoon Resort is very isolated and offers great diving but there is not much to do on the island itself except read, chat with other guests, or explore the island. If you click on my "photos" link you can see some of my pics from my stay at BLR. BTW, I would highly recommend the shark dive. It is the only dive that offers seeing up to 6 or 7 species of shark on the same dive.

Send me a message if you want further info.

Regards,

Bill

Thanks for the responses guys, If anyone else has any input please feel free to add. My trip has changed slightly and I am going to go back to cairns to dive the great barrier again then I am going to spend the rest of my time in Fiji. I cant wait!!!!

We're heading to Beqa Lagoon resort in 5 weeks. The closer it gets, the more excited we are.

I read a magazine article recently concerning coral reefs, and was surprised to learn that Fiji is one of the few places right now where the reefs are actually thriving. The coral in many locations is struggling against environmental conditions, and in some places it's not looking good for the survival of the reefs. Fiji, however, has strong, healthy reefs still.

I'd already purposed to invest in "reef-friendly" sunscreen, but learning that made me more determined to make sure what I need to wear doesn't contribute to reef damage.

Here are trip reports, Pictures, and Videos of Fiji and Beqa as well as other locations! Keep your eye out for Reed's Rods they are a must in Beqa Lagoon;) Order yours on our site or you can buy one there, just ask the Dive Boys to set you up!
