Hello,

As our usual holidays routine takes place late Oct/early Nov, we've been thinking about Fiji or Rangiroa this year, with a few days stopover in Hawaii, on our way.
Does it makes sense to go there in fall? Are there any wrecks or deeper dives available in Fiji or Rangiroa or Fakarava? We love sea life and reefs, but wrecks are our top interest - will we get bored easily?
Last vacation we spent @ Palau - how would you compare it to the locations?
Thanks in advance for all your hints!

Piotr

You wont find wrecks in Rangiroa - bottom of the pass is around 50m, its high current drift diving. There is a diveable wreck in tahiti but I think if wrecks are your thing then Fiji would be more what you are after. November is fine, rainy but that doesnt stop you diving :D

There's quite a few decent wrecks to dive around Beqa lagoon and of course the added bonus of the shark dive. November can be a little bit choppier on the surface but nothing to be too concerned about.

The Viz in Bega Lagoon gets pretty bad, at least by Fijian standards, during the rain season as the lagoon catches lots of run off. I have not dove the Sonaisali Island are but according to this site it may be your best bet for wrecks.

[h=3]Notable Wrecks in Fiji[/h]The Salamanda is a wreck that can be found off the Sonaisali Island and it is at a depth of thirty metres. It is considered to be a safe dive for a wide range of divers; from those with little experience to those with a lot of experience. You can swim through interior parts of the ship, making it a wonderful and interesting dive that you will enjoy.

Also available to dive in the Sonaisali area of Fiji is a plane wreck and an interesting Yacht wreck that are sure to offer divers a unique and interesting experience.

Another wreck that is an exciting dive can be found in Beqa Lagoon and is the Tasu No. 2. The ship was a two hundred ton fishing vessel that sank in 1994. It now rests completely upright as if continuing to sail on a bed of white sand. While there aren't any recommended swim through spots, it is still an intriguing wreck as the clarity of the water allows divers a good view of the marine life that now inhabits the ship.
