Im headed to Fiji and Vanuatu this August, I have a place to stay and dive in Vanuatu, but I need help at Fiji. I have started reading the posts on here but I thought it might be easier to describe what Im looking for vs researching all the locations mentioned only to find out its not what we are looking for... SO:

Fiji, just my wife and I, looking for a smaller resort, must have private bathrooms, dont need "fancy". meals provided would be nice, but not required. We are looking to mostly dive, but I would like to see and experience the local culture as well.

We are staying in Port Vila for a good portion of the time, but Id like to stay for a few days on a small island, diving would be nice, but not necissary for that portion of our trip. A small, "non touristy" type of place would be wonderful. Private bath again would however be necissary.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Welcome to SB!

Last September I did my first tript to Fiji. I chose to dive the Bligh Waters & Vatu-i-ra channel with Kai Viti Divers. The original plan was to stay at Wananavu resort, but it was booked for half the time. Instead I stayed at the Tanoa Rakiraki hotel. It costs about US $60 for a room with private bath & AC. It's somewhat isolated (not on the beach) but a taxi to Wananavu is only about $6. You can walk to the local village though. The diving there is spectacular.

Vanuatu.... Tranquility Island (also a turtle sanctuary) http://www.southpacdivecruise.com.vu/resort.html

a bus and boat ride out from port vila... VERY basic and eco, your package includes meals but def away from the touristy stuff

otherwise, 20min bus ride from port vila is Hideaway Island (we were married there) http://www.hideaway.com.vu/

i would suggest Santo for the Coolidgee but i dont know how much time you have and this is an extra flight from port vila

vanuatu is one of my most fav places to go to.... been there 4 times by memory

enjoy!
