The amazing part? Diving is a sport of limits. Air/Depth/Time are limits we have all learned to live with. Having a 15 character limit only affects those trying to catch up to Andy's post count.

it never stops me from posting (ya right!) just makes it a pain
if there is a good reason, it will be much easier to deal with the annoyance if we know
what it is
from our perspective, it looks like a solution in search of a problem
but, of course, we don't have the full picture, so we could be wrong
(in other words, all the limits you listed in your example have a reason. they make sense. this just seems arbitrary and, frankly, annoying as hell)

There is a phenomenon about limits... I learned about it in conjunction with an electric fence. This farmer had one surrounding his field of cows. As we talked I approached it with caution, and the farmer told me not to worry: the fence had been broken for months. Why are they still in the field? It's easy, once you set a limit, most never realise when it's been eliminated or reduced.
