Hubby going on a live aboard end of Feb on Cyclone out of Sharm. What will the weather be like at night ? Will it get very cold ?

Also will he need a hood and gloves to dive ?

Last question can anyone remember the local tablets for tummy sickness, you know the ones that really work ? We were there in October and got some but can't remember the name and he needs to get some just in case.

Thanks in advance

cold is relative, summer in Europe is cold from the Egyptian perspective :) but anyway it should be very cold indeed, this year the weather is really different than what we used to have in the past few years !
I would go for yes for a hood and gloves although I am not a fan of hoods but last week in Hurghada I felt I needed them.
you have stugeron or draminex both work for sea sickness and I usually have both with me over any boat.

Enjoy !

Hi,

What type of wetsuit would you wear ? Hubby has a 3m one and is fine with that in places likes Malta...and Red Sea....not sure if that will be ok in February.

At night time what is the air temp ?

Thanks

In summer (down till 27 degrees) I wear my Tshirt on diving, moderate weather where water temp is between 24-26 I have my 3mm, these days with water temp 23 and below I have my 5mm and I have my 2.5mm vest in hand
So I suggest a 5mm suit even if he doesn't feel cold beneath, it will help him shelter from the cold wind above.

at night it ranges between 8-12

Agree with Solly here, I generally wear a 5mm semi dry and use a hooded vest 24C and below in this region. I do also have a new 6.5mm semi-dry that is good for below 20C.

When I lived in Jeddah I used a 7mm semi-dry during the winter.

A hood makes a great difference in heat loss, and bring a wooly hat for the surface interval

Terrific guys...thanks so much for all the info....we are going into Dublin to get him a new wetsuit this weekend. Better for him to be warm than cold !!

He is looking forward to getting away from a bitterly cold Dublin.

agree with the above from Solly and Searcaigh - minimum 5mm wetsuit, lavacore/sharkskin etc undersuit highly recommended, hood also recommended, 7mm better, semidry even more so. Although gloves are technically legal now, they used to be forbidden and some companies still adhere to the old rule. The worst bit is getting out of the water, especially on a windy day, especially in Tiran. The only way to avoid this is to dive in a drysuit, otherwise you just have to man up, take the pain, and make sure the crew have the hot water on standby! :D

Night time - long pants, woolly socks, fleeces essential, nice woolly hat an added bonus. Mulled wine or hot toddies go a long way to help!

Cyclone's a good boat from a good outfit (Tornado) so I expect he'll have a great time.

Cheers!

I don't know when it was changed but a 2009 CDWS regulation says the use of gloves and knives is not restricted, as long as they are used for the purposes they were intended...

Not a lot of people know about it, for some reason... which is not necessarily a bad thing!
