Join the North Coast Divers in February up in Sonoma County for our monthly dive.
Hopefully the conditions will lay down and we'll have a great day of diving.
Date: 2/2/08
Location: Stillwater Cove Park, Sonoma County, Ca.
Time: 9:00 AM
How to get there:
Get to Coast hwy 1 either from Petaluma, Cotati, or Santa Rosa and take hwy 1 heading north all the way up 14 miles past Jenner to Stillwater cove Park. The cove is well marked. Unload your gear down at the 15 minute loading/unloading area at the entrance to the cove. Long term parking is available up at the hwy turn out just south from the cove or across the hwy up in Stillwater Campground. There is a path leading down to the cove from the upper parking lot in the campground
There is a 5 or 6 dollar fee to park in the upper lot.
We will be shore diving and the dive site is beginner to intermediate.
Bring all the tanks you wish to use and all your gear plus back up gear you think you may need. The closest dive shop is an hour away in Bodega Bay.
The entry is a coarse sand beach and on a calm day is as easy or easier than the Breakwater in Monterey. The cove is rocky progressing into larger rocks and impressive reef structure the further out you go. Depth in the cove averages 15 to 20 feet and reaches a depth outside of the cove of 50-70 feet depending on your range and gas supply. Visibility ranges from 5 to 15 feet on average but can soar up to 40 feet at times.
Game hunting is allowed but if you choose to hunt, check the DFG regulations to see what's open. There are quite a few closures in effect this time of year.
Anybody is welcome to join the North Coast Divers for any of their monthly dives. There are no fees or dues but you will be asked to sign a liability release waiver if you wish to dive with us. This is not a lead dive; there is no official divemaster running or leading the dive. Everybody is responsible for themselves and their own safety.
If you do not have a buddy and would like one then we will do our best to find a compatible buddy for you to dive with.
This will be BYOL (bring your own lunch), so if you want a snack after you dive make sure you bring some food for yourself.
For more info or if you have questions go to the NCD website in my signature and click on Dives and Events, there you will see the topic: Official February Dive.
I will be the greeter for that dive so ask for Eric when you arrive and I'll get you dialed in.
See you all there!
Eric
