February Guys' Trip Advice

Hi- I am planning a short trip (4 nights) with a buddy. One of us lives in ohio, the other in new england. We are leaving the wives and kids behind so not looking for the ritz or the like. We thought that Roatan would be perfect- but the flight schedules make it a real challenge (acknowledging that we could fly into the mainland first). Other thoughts include puerto rico, mexico, costa rica, maybe even pensacola..
We are planning sometime in february. Ideally we would stay at a clean 2-bedroom apt or small house- type place. Again not looking for the ritz or all inclusives We are not looking to party all night but we like to eat and drink and prefer to hang out at local-type joints. Any thoughts on location- to maximize our diving and fun on this kind of short trip?

If cash is not much of an issue - cobalt coast, Grand Cayman

If you have a budget - Cancun or Cozumel, Mexico

Because you only have four days - you want to spend as little time as possible traveling and more on site!

Are you counting 4 days total, including travel days? If so, then that means only 2-3 days of diving. I hardly think it is worthwhile to go out of the country for that. You will barely be over jetlag or travel bloat before you are getting back on a plane.
February is still wintertime in Caribbean... go far south, like Bonaire for best weather. But it will be a full day of travel each way to get there.... I think you need more than 4 days to do that type of travel.

If you really want to do a short trip, out of the country, I would say look at direct flights to Cozumel. Hotel Barracuda/Dive Paradise have some good basic packages.

My suggestions is to look at maybe south Florida, make sure you are there for the weekend as most boats don't go out in wintertime except on weekends. There are also the Springs in north Florida.

The Bahamas also work for East coasters with short time budgets.
