Favorite Ohio dive spots

hey all

You know, I don't believe I've ever posted in this particular forum before...how can that be??

I personally have gone to Circleville Twin more than anyplace else, mostly because it's close by, but I actually prefer Portage as being a lot more interesting. I dove White Star once--one chilly October Saturday--but had to abort early because my dagbummed air was low. Doh!

I turn the conch over to yall.

I'm definitely going to make a trip to Circleville this summer. I've heard that it is more shallow and should warm up a bit quicker than Gilboa (which is where I've gone more than anywhere else). I dove at Portage last year on one day (2 dives) and I'll probably go back to explore some more.

Hey guys,

You need to try Lake Erie! As long as the weather is decent, the vis can push 50-60' and the wrecks are fantastic. I dove out of Lorain on a couple of occasions and had a ball.

Hmmm you can hook up with us, dive the stadium in Lake Erie always going out there in the summer, going to Canada to do some wreck diving up there in Tobermorey. Lots of diving to be had around here. Just PM us when your up this way.

I guess I have to say Gilboa is my favorite place to dive in Ohio, seeing that I've been there four or five times and have never dived anywhere else in Ohio. Great facilities, a nice campground, and lots of things to explore in the quarry. Have depths for all skill levels and lots to look at. One of my favorite places to dive, until the newbies get in there and turn it into a mud hole....

I'd have to agree with Tom as far as quarries go. I dove Gilboa, Natural Springs, Circleville, Portage, and Whitestar and always seem to go back to Gilboa. However, given the choice to do a Great Lakes wreck dive..I'd opt for it.

I agree with you on that one Tom, Gilboa is about the only one that offers excellent service and deep diving around here.

Hey yeah, good ole Tobermory! Dove up there back in 2000, I think. I went all the way down to 100' my first dive (don't remember which wreck that was), and found out that my old Dacor Enduro doesn't like that kind of diving.

Yeah, I'll do the PM thing, definitely.

You know, Gilboa is the one major quarry in Ohio I've never been to. I've heard...things. You know. At least one other member of my dive club is leery about going there, tho I dunno if she's just being goofy with me. Is it true that the Gilboa fish there have three eyes, and other horrors? :11:

Haven't seen any three eyed critters, but they are big. Only horror is if you touch Mike's fish :11: and he finds out about it.
