What is your favorite wreck in NC?

I am in constant self debate with this topic.......:14:

I am hung between Papoose, City of Houston, and Normannia

and then I really love the John D. Gill too!

Someone make a decision for me......otherwise I am just going to keep diving all of them as often as I can! eyebrow

tom, how 'bout the canoe in front of my mama's house? you forgot that one! :D

actually, i think you're on to something. we have to visit them all continuously in a cycle & try to rate them.

(so far, for me, i vote papoose. but that's just because of the teeth i found. because there sure aren't any lionfish.)

Well, considering the two times I had actually went through and made plans to dive MHC last summer it was blown out so I can't take part in your poll Tom. Consider me the baby upcoming wreck diver of the group. :D I've done more NFL and freshwater diving than saltwater so far. I intend to remedy that this summer. Also, considering I moved late last summer to another city that put a hurting on the dive budget for 2005. 2006 I'm hoping will be a better year to hit the coastal area. Maybe we should also start a wish list of some sort for this year. I've been sw diving in California and Florida but for some reason it just hasn't been happening in NC since I've been certified.

I almost forgot! I did do the Triangle wrecks in Nags Head but those are shore dives.

I love the Papoose and the John D. Gill. I have never been on the City of Houston, and Normannia. After the easter trip, the City of Houston, will be covered.

We will be diving the City of Houston (twice), Normannia, Markam, The Gill & Hyde the last weekend in June (24th-26th) with Cape Fear & also hitting the Frying Pan Tower & the 23 mile ledge so Im glad to hear they are some of your favorites.

Frying Pan Tower is one of my favorite spots, but it is not a wreck. 23 mile ledge is ok....really good if you are a spearfisherman......keep an eye out for meg teeth on 23 mile ledge, I have videod one out there, but didn't see it til I got home to watch the tape......DOH!

If the current isn't too bad, you will love Frying Pan! Lots to see, shallow depths....kind of like carribean diving in NC.

I have a half-hearted wreck diagram of the City of Houston on my website's wreck page.....seeing the layout of that wreck may help you before you go....there is a link to my website in my sig line! Happy diving!

I have only been there once last year and I dove on the papoose, shurz(sp?), and the U-352 and I loved all 3. Now since I am a fairly new diver I didn't go inside of any but we went all around the outside and I still had a blast. I can't wait to back this year and check them out again and get to discover some more. I am hoping to make a couple of trips this year.

I'm a huge fan of the Triangle Wrecks that someone mentioned, but the USCGC Bedloe is by far my favorite. You can see it, and me as a matter of fact, on Deep Sea Detectives on April 17!

OBXDIVEGUY

can you tell me when the bouy is set at the Tri-Angle Wrecks and the Huron????

Warm, clear water, sharks, turtles, and the chance of finding something cool to bring home. The Proteus is my favorite. It was also a passenger ship built at Newports News Shipbuilding in 1919, where my dive buddy, Larry Horne and I work.

Dive it with Johnny and Amy at Outer Banks Diving in Hatteras. Johnny usually dives himself and always finds something. Sometimes he will even give you a piece of broken china to take home.:D
