Sounds good to me, I think. At the end of the day or night in case of our paddle-less kayaker the Gulf Stream always seems to trump all other forces over the course of hours adrift.

and of course, if you have a gyroscope handy, you can dip it in the water and swirl it around, switching the direction of the Gulf Stream

but this takes a lot of practice
