I have a stranger-than-normal question. If a diver needs, for example, 20 lbs. of lead for good buoyancy and has liposuction during which 4 lbs. of fat is removed, then how much less lead would the diver need after the liposucton, ceteris paribus? Is the relationship 1:1 2:1 or what? Does anyone know?

Specific gravity of fat is about 0.91
Specific gravity of seawater is about 1.025
Specific gravity of lead is about 11.35
So in seawater you should be able to shed a pound of lead for every 10 pounds (approximately) of fat that is liposuctioned .

That would be covered in the specific gravity difference between fat and seawater. I think I'll just carry the extra lead.
