Pedro kept asking me if he could do anything more for me, i.e. bring me cigars, fill my thermos with homemade coffee, etc. They know the island and people well, got the contacts

Great tip. I forgot about asking Pedro for help.

DAN recommends 18 hours after the last of all no-deco dives to fly time and their studies show no real reason for returning to the old 24 hour wait. Do work at hydration tho, drinking as much non-diuretic beverages as you can.

The DM (Darrin) resisted letting anyone dive within 24 hours.

besides - most just pee in their suits. It's accepted.

But not while standing on the dock or boats :D

Get the cab! Walk out to the road if you want to save money as I think anyone who is picked up on resort pays more to compensate for the fees paid by the taxi to the resort, haggle over rates, or don't go.

Another great tip

It seems this board sometimes it more about about being critical than helpful.
But to all the helpful people thank you for taking thetime to answer my question about a taxi.

So it is helpful for people to scare the bejeesus out of folks when it comes to renting a car but critical when others have driven the island many times, rented cars and been just fine? Hmm, Go figure.

Your point is perfectly valid. But, I would like to hear from those that have had accidents and resolved the liability issues.

Actually in December my wife was hit in her rental truck by a young local guy in his, We contacted his father, his father called Avis and arranged payment for damages that were not all to serious and all was well.
I wonder how many of these who feel they are such experts with driving and the legal system have ever actually driven or needed the legal system and how much is simply speculation.

I go on every SS, but if you need to go on a moving boat - at least stand at the back.

It's helpful to encourage safety in travel. It's fine for you to rent a car and take your risks but rude to insult others who chose safety.

Sorry don,
I don't follow you. I simply let some know i have driven the Roatan roads for years, never had any real problems when one decided to feel I was not helpful and you felt it was foolish so just who is being rude? Have you ever had to deal with the local police or been in an accident or are you just wanting to scare folks? Sure, you gotta be careful and if there is serious injury then Roatan is not the place to be but use your head here, I can drive at a speed I am comfortable with, I have had driver training, if my car has an issue I can fix it. Now hire a driver? Do you test the drivers brakes and wipers before getting in? Do you think that local driver has had any driver education? A drivers license on Roatan costs about $20 US, no test required. Have you found the one driver that does not feel he belongs in the Indy 500? Do you really feel it is safer to let someone drive you?

Ok I asked about a taxi.... now you are going to blast me on renting a car... I NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT RENTING A CAR....
Yes you have some information that is good but cut the bashing crap out.,.. We are not kids or at least I am not.
Thanks and enought said.

And if you do rent a car, be sure you can get to the gas tank before you take it off the lot. They will charge you for a full tank no matter whether you can actually refill the vehicle or not, even though we had used less than a 1/4 of a tank for our errands.

don't know who you rented from but every time we have rented a car they clearly state how much fuel is in the tank on the paperwork and we are only required to return it with the same amount. If you don't they do charge you heavy but so does every other rental car place in the world.

Now that's awful news! Glad it was a light case, but no fun! Y'all are such experienced divers that I got to wonder how that happened. No criticisms; just want to learn here. One guess is that y'all get so comfortable in your second home there that maybe you forgot something, like maybe not hydrating more than thirst requires - but who knows?

Thanks for the concern DD. The only thing to be learned here is that it happens. Even though we do EVERYTHING right, it can happen. I know you are looking for things we overlooked, but honestly we've been doing the same thing and it's just not there. Proper (excess) hydration began the day before our flight to Roatan and continued throughout the week. Computer limits were ALWAYS monitored but never even got close to the limits. Ascent rates were in check. We never dove more than three dives a day, and the last two days we only dove twice. Our profiles were very conservative. We are not spring chickens, so unless you're ready to blame it on age we'll just have to acknowledge that sometimes even though we do everything right - DCS can happen :dontknow:
