Local shop has Faber FX 100 HP steel tanks for $299.95 and Faber 100 HP steel tanks for $309.95. What is the difference between the FX 100 and the 100? Here is a link to the page I am looking at. I asked the person working that day and he didn't know.

I do appreciate you responding, but...it didn't help. I only see 1 Faber 100 listed on that chart. The X7 tanks you listed at top are the XS Scuba tanks and are not the faber tanks.

if the service pressures are the same, just buy whatever the newer birthday is, if the service pressure is the 3180+, then unless you are diving single tanks in a drysuit or 7mm farmer john for cold water, I'd get the FX series
 
I have a 3180+ Faber HP120; if I were buying again and had a choice between the 3180+ and the FX series (3442), I'd have gone with the FX because it's lighter overall and a little closer to neutrally buoyant when empty. The other nice thing about the 3442 is that you don't have to worry about the +10% - when I first got my tank I had a little ritual for awhile with one of the guys at an LDS where we would talk through the plus rating and the fill pressure in order to get the 3498 psi fill (allowed with the + rating) vs. a 3180 psi fill (what's actually stamped on the cylinder).

Thanks for all input, I now understand the difference and have decided the FX is the way to go!
