Has there been a study to determine whether of not the "antique divers" hearing loss is due to EAM exostosis or to long term, multiple incident barotrauma?

NO, or at least to my limited knowledge there has not been a study.

One determing factor is the sample grouping is too small and is certainly concentrated in SoCal.

At the "Fathers of Freedivers and spearfishermen" held in 2000 in SoCal antique divers from all over the world met for the last and final gathering of the tribe. Of the 80 selected and honored the majority sported hearing aids. Many had been operated on for EAM or were anticipating EAM removal by a doctor specializing in EAM in Santa Barbara, California.

Certainly a great study for a doctoral canidate.. Any takers?
