Ok before any one says dry suit, I can't afford it. Now, I have a 7mm Bare wesuit (back zip), 7mm Neosport boots, 5mm gloves, and a 5mm hood. Question is if I get a nice 7mm hooded vest from Bare that goes to just above the knees and elbows will I be cold in the mid to lower 40 ° waters of NJ in march?

you will be cold probably after 40 minutes and going out of the water.

I suggest 7mm hood, 7mm gloves (henderson) or 3 fingers mittens (waterproof or whites), neoprene socks.

also, a skin like the aeroskin would be nice underneath the wetsuit. Many have some minor insulation.

With that kind of gear, I could stay 1 hour in 39F water.

Thanks for the info. I got the diving itch and I can't wait until it warms up.
