A friend of mine recently went into a dive shop near Sedalia Missouri and asked to try on a mask. He was told that he could take it out of the box, but would not be allowed to try it on!!! Can you believe this? This is a dive shop begging to go out of business. The only advantage that a dive shop has over an on line store is the ability to let the customer try on equipment. If you take that away, what’s left?

That depends on what your friend looks like, I suppose.

kick them to the curb....that's like not letting you try out the toilet in the store before you buy...ok well maybe a little different...but it is crazy.

One of our local lets you try all you want. You leave them on the bench so they can sanitize them before they go back on the wall. Then if you buy you get a factory fresh one from stock.

Can't try rubbish!

Pete

You might as well put your hand in a bag and just pull out a mask. I think I am going to invest more in scubatoys.com lol

all that great advice...no, wait, like you'd want advice from a place so stupid...

Every video or text I've seen dealing with mask purchasing all recommend to rest the mask on your face and lightly inhale through your nose to check for fit....... So.... this shop is gonna confuse a LOT of divers.

Maybe they were afraid he's put it only on his forehead? (MOF?)

I can't believe that's the store policy.

More likely a confused (and commissionless) sales clerk.

You can't lay out $80 something for a mask without the face treatment.

Geez, people are idiots sometimes...
